This community was shocked Sunday morning to learn of the death of H. A. Darrah which occurred about two o’clock that morning. While Mr. Darrah had been sick for several days, the general public did not know he was dangerously so.

Mr. Darrah was the junior member of the firm of Joeckel & Darrah, clothiers, and was considered one of our brightest, cleanest and most prosperous business men. The community loses an exemplary citizen and the wife a loving, indulgent and faithful husband.

Henry Arthur Darrah, son of James and Rebecca Darrah, was born May 5, 1868, in New Brunswick, Canada, and died in Winterset, Iowa, October 26, 1913, aged 45 years, 5 months and 20 days. When about one and one-half years old his parents moved from Canada to Winterset, where they lived about one year, leaving Winterset and moving to Storm Lake, Iowa, where his parents resided on a farm. Mr. Darrah, when a young man, went to Cherokee, Iowa, where clerked in a store. He was married to Ida Douding in Cherokee on December 13, 1892. Mr. and Mrs. Darrah came to Winterset in the fall of 1898, where they have since resided, Mr. Darrah having been engaged in the clothing business since that time. Mr. Darrah joined the Masonic Lodge in Winterset, Iowa, December, 1904.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife and his father, mother and one brother, who now reside in Florida. He also leaves a host of friends who will miss that brotherly feeling that he always had for his fellow men. He was a good, clean Christian man, and stood for everything that was good. Winterset has lost one of her best beloved citizens. He was a faithful and consistent member of the Presbyterian church.

The funeral services were held from the home Monday afternoon and the remains were that evening taken to Cherokee for interment.
