Asa Archer, one of South township’s most substantial farmers died at his home on Monday night Feb. 10th. Had he lived until March 11th, he would have been 92 years of age. Mr. Archer was born in Jackson county, Illinois in 1822, and came to Monroe county in 1847. He came to Madison county in 1862 and settled on the farm in South township which has since been his home. Mr. Archer was a man highly respected by all who knew him, and was a man who had many friends. He was a kind and loving husband, a good neighbor and will be greatly missed from the community in which he has lived for the past 51 years.
