Matthias W. Davis was born Oct. 9, 1828, and died Dec. 8, 1913, being 85 years, 1 months and 29 days old. He was the eldest son of a large family of whom only two sisters, Mrs. Jane Kolp, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Amanda Amorine, of Troy, Ohio, survive him. His first wife having died in 1890, he was married to Miss Marion P. Holton in 1891, whom he leaves to mourn his loss. He never had any children.

He had been in feeble health for the past four years and much of that time a great sufferer, and the entire care was on the shoulders of his wife, who bore the burden faithfully and well. He fell asleep in peace and those who knew him best, believe he entered into rest.

The funeral occurred from the home Tuesday at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Moon, of the Baptist church. Interment was made in the Rock City cemetery.
