FONDA H. JACKSON, Lebanan, Ind.

Fonda Hester Jackson, 80, a former Earlham resident, died July 1, 1990, at Kingsburg Centre Nursing Home at Lebanan, Ind.

She was born on July 28, 1909, the third oldest daughter of Simon N. and Catherine Griffen Hester, at the family farm at Vermillion Grove, Ill.

A memorial service is planned for July 7 at Thorntown, Ind., and burial will be at Earlham on July 9. Graveside services at 1:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Sugar Plain Friends Meeting, Thorntown, Ind., 46071.

She lived her young years in Friends Parsonages in Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, and Iowa. A birthright Friend, she has been a member of the Sugar Plain Friends Meeting the last few years.

She graduated from Thorntown High School with the class of 1927, and later attended the Methodist Hospital Nurses Training School in Indianapolis, Ind. She was a nurse at William Penn College in Oskaloosa for two years.

In 1933, she married Wallace G. Jackson of Earlham; Wallace had a son William L. Jackson, born to an earlier marriage, whose mother died at childbirth. Fonda and Wallace had two daughters. They lived their entire married life in Earlham, until Wallace died in October of 1976. After Wallace's death she lived for a time in Earlham, Carmel, Ind, and in 1982 returned to Thorntown, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her oldest sister, two infant sisters, and an infant brother.

Surviving are her step-sons, William L. and wife Marge of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two daughters, Janet E. Joyner and husband and David of Kingwood, Texas, Jane E. Drury of Mt. Prospect, Ill., nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three sisters: Lucille Manis of Owensboro, Ky., Ruth A. Nelson and Vera H. Carter, both of Pompano Beach, Fla..
