Geneva Darlene (DeLong) Addy
Aug. 3, 1927 – Sept. 13, 2010

Geneva Darlene Addy, 83, formerly of Winterset, passed away in her home on Sept. 13, 2010, in Austin, Texas. Born Aug. 3, 1927, in Winterset, Gennie graduated from Winterset High School in 1945 and obtained her teaching certificate from Simpson College in 1947. Her full and vibrant career included teaching in rural schools throughout Madison County and filling the roles of Bookkeeper and then Comptroller of Homesteaders Life in Des Moines. In her retirement she worked part time at the world-famous John Wayne home in Winterset. She also was an expert antique collector and appraiser, enjoyed traveling with her husband O.D., spending time with close friends and family, and living independently.

Gennie was the daughter of Lawrence and Veldeva (Hogg) DeLong, sister to Gwendolyn Hope, and wife of O.D. Addy. She is survived by her family in Austin, Texas, which includes her son Randall W. Allen and his wife Wendy; her grandson Benjamin Allen, his wife Pam, and their children Sam and Grace; and her granddaughter Hillary (Allen) Skaff, her husband Sol, and their children Adah, Isaiah, and Judah.

A private family gathering was held in her honor in Austin on Thursday, Sept. 16, at Cook-Walden/Chapel of the Hills. She was a beautiful and wise daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, and she will be missed dearly.

Remembrances can be mailed to Faith in Action Caregivers/NW (10633 Lake Creek Parkway, Austin TX 78750), or to Randy and Wendy Allen (11149 Calavar Drive, Austin TX 78726), who will then personally deliver donations to the charity.
