Arthur Eugene Brittain, 81, succumbed to cancer September 20, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 24 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel with burial at North McDonald Cemetery in rural Madison County. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where family will greet friends from 5 ot 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Gene was born in rural Madison County on January 11, 1929 to Joseph and Mary Brittain. On September 11, 1948 he married Lola Mae Baumgardner. He was a farmer, carpenter and a proud member of the Osceola Tractor Club.
He is survived by his wife; seven children, Ron (Venancia), Cheryl (Roger) Thompson, Steve (Pam), Shirley Sevde, Randy, Mike (Marsha) and David (Kandi); sisters, Ruth, Evelynn, Mary Jane and Carol; 22 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Walter and Joseph.
