Samuel Cutshall was born in Harrison county, Ohio, July 19, 1848 and died Sept. 11, 1912, aged 64 years, one month and 22 days. At the age of eight years, he came to Madison county, Iowa and lived here about one year, they family then moved to Missouri, where he grew in manhood. He returned to Madison county where he spent the remainder of his life.

He was married Dec. 11, 1879 to Sarah Gutshall. To them were born six children, four sons and two daughters. One daughter, Neva, died in infancy. The living children are: William H., John W., George A., Perry and Mrs. Janey E. Sheets, all of Van Meter, and four grandchildren.

The deceased experienced religion in early manhood and united with the Methodist church and remained a faithful member until he was called home. He often expressed his desire to remain with his loved ones longer, but if it was God’s will he was ready to go. He leaves besides his children and grandchildren, two brothers and one sister, also many other relatives and friends to mourn his departure.
