FLORENCE MAY DAY

Florence M. Day, age 88, died at Adair County Memorial Hospital Tuesday August 31, 2010.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday September 3, 2010 at the Penn Center Methodist Church in rural Earlham. Burial and military rites will be in the Penn Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday September 2, 2010 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Kuhn funeral Home in Earlham, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. .

She enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in February 1944 during World War II and proudly served her country till her Honorable Discharge as a Sergeant in March 1946.

During her life she was very active in the Penn Center WSCS and later UMW. She was also a very active member of the Order of Eastern Star and proudly served at each Star Point and every office; her favorite being that of Chaplain.

Florence was happy to be a homemaker and care for her children as her full time occupation. Her favorite pass time, besides raising her family, was being a sports fan cheering on her children, grandchildren and her favorite teams.

Florence is preceded in death by her parents, sister Lenore, husband Scott and son Morgan. She is survived by her brother Fred Morford, Jr. and wife Verna of Dexter, daughter- in-law Michel (Mikey) Day of Greenfield, daughter Lynn Margheim and husband Rick of NE, Scott Day, III and wife Elaine of Keota, Fred Day and wife Karla of Earlham, Jon Day and partner Tom Petrola of NJ, Jack Day and friend Shelly of Dexter; Grandchildren Heather Honkomp, Mackinzie Day, Tad Day, April Altenhofen, Dusty Day, Jaime Rucker, Jeremy Day, Jason Day, Katie Day, Chad Day, Cody Day, Shania Day and Grace Day; 15 great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews other relatives and many, many friends.

Memorials may be directed to the Penn Center Methodist Church.

Florence May Day, 88, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010, in Greenfield.

Funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 at Penn Center Methodist Church, rural Earlham, with Pastor Gideon Gallo officiating.

Organist was Marcella McCleary and soloist Jon Day san “In the Garden” and “Let There Be Peace on Earth.” A congregational hymn was “The Old Rugged Cross.”

Bearers were Tad Day, Jeremy Day, Jason Day, Chad Day, Cody Day, and Dusty Day.

Interment was in Penn Center Cemetery, rural Earlham.

Florence May Morford Day, the daughter of Fred Sr. and Lillian (Wright) Morford, was born March 4, 1922 on the farm near Dexter.

She graduated from Dexter High School in 1939 and went on to Iowa State and then to AIB. She enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in February 1944 during World War II and proudly served her country until her honorable discharge as a sergeant in March 1946.

During those years of service she met her best friend and love of her life, Scott Day, Jr. They were married at the Penn Center Church on July 7, 1946. They had six children, Morgan, Lynn, Scott, Fred, Jon, and Jack, and raised the on the farm near Earlham.

Survivors include her brother, Fred (Verna) Morford, Jr. of Dexter; daughter-in-law, Michel Day of Greenfield; children, Lynn (Rick) Margheim of Nebraska, Scott (Elaine) Day, III of Keota, Fred (Karla) Day of Earlham, Jon Day and partner Tom Petrola of New Jersey, Jack Day and friend Shelly of Dexter; grandchildren, Heather Honkomp, Mackinzie Day, Tad Day, April Altenhofen, Dusty Day, Jaime Rucker, Jeremy Day, Jason Day, Katie Day, Chad Day, Cody Day, Shania Day, and Grace Day; 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham, and Redfield was in charge of arrangements.
