Mrs. Rebecca C. Brown, one of the old settlers of this neighborhood, died at the home of her daughter, in Orient, Sunday, Feb. 25th. The funeral was held at the Worthington church Thursday. The children were all present except Mrs. Henry Rankin of Draper, S. D.

Rebecca C. Nichol was born March 2nd, 1830 near Bedford, Lawrence Co., Indiana, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. O. C. Priddy near Orient, Iowa, Feb. 25th, 1912, having lived 81 years, 11 months and 23 days. She was married to George Brown Nov. 21st, 1850 at Bedford, Indiana. In 1851 they moved to Iowa and after a short time settled on a farm in Madison County where they continued to live for almost forty-seven years. About twelve years ago they moved to Stuart where they resided until the death of the husband June 15th 1909. Since that time she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. O. C. Priddy and son Robert near Earlham, Iowa.

She was the mother of ten children of whom six are still living, Mrs. O. C. Priddy and Mrs. S. M. Beck of Orient, Iowa; Mrs. J. D. Whitenack of Storm Lake, Iowa; Mrs. H. T. Rankin of Draper, S. Dak.; W. H. Brown of Denver, Col., and Robt. F. Brown of near Dedham, who lived on the old homestead where he was born, also two half sisters, Mrs. Nancy Gilleland, of Des Moines, Iowa and Mrs. Minerva Jellison, of Winterset, Iowa.

She united with the M.E. Church in her girlhood and lived a faithful devoted Christian until the end came. Twenty-four hours before her death she was singing hymns she loved so much. The funeral services were conducted at the Worthington church (rest is missing)
