Page 1Death of REV. ALEXANDER CORKEY
Rev. Alexander Corkey of Wayne, Nebraska, brother of Rev. J. S. Corkey of this place, died at Sioux City, on Wednesday of last week. Rev. Alex Corkey was well known here, where he has frequently visited. His acquaintance was further widened as platform manager of the Chautauqua three years ago. A week before his death, he was attacked with appendicitis, and the disease had made such progress that the operation at the hospital failed to give relief.
That “death loves a shining mark” was never more true than in the death of Alexander Corkey. While comparatively a young man he was one of the ablest ministers of his state and his fine personality and ability as a pulpit orator ably endowed him for a wide field of usefulness. He had already won a national reputation in the literary field, and his three books, “The Testing Fire,” “Allan Rutledge” and “The Vision of Joy” have gained a wide circulation throughout the United States.
