James William Hardy was born on Jan. 18, 1851 in Wabash county, Indiana, and died July 4, 1914, in Patterson, Iowa, aged 63 years, 5 months, 16 days. On Jan. 25, 1872, occurred his marriage to Miss Jane Stalter. Three children were born to them: one of those entered eternity, leaving a son and a daughter, Isaac of Patterson and Mrs. Carrie Riley of Des Moines; who with their mother, and Mrs. John Crossley and Mrs. Wm. Scrivner, sisters of the deceased; ten grandchildren, with other relatives and friends grieve for the departed.
Bro. Hardy had been failing for many months having been paralyzed about three years ago. His faithful wife, who cared for him so well and so patiently, through these years, demonstrated that “many waters cannot quench the fire of love.” God bless the faithful wife of the deceased and help her. Our brother professed faith in the world's Redeemer during the last few days on earth. Undoubtedly, the mercy and forbearance of God were again extended to a struggling, troubled soul.
Rev. Fred Warner of the Patterson M. E. church conducted the funeral, Sunday at two p.m. Burial was made in the Montpelier cemetery.
