Obituary

William Stoneman was born in Harrison county, Ohio, Jan. 15, 1825 and died at the home of his son, Theodore, near Truro, Iowa, Nov. 29, 1910, age 85 years, 10 months and 14 days. He was married to Matilda Reed, on March 26, 1846. To this union were born three children: Thomas Gilmore, Theodore Mayes and one child dying in infancy. They moved to Montezuma, Iowa, in the fall of 1854, and his wife died twelve days after they reached Iowa. Soon afterwards he moved to Madison county and settled on a farm near Truro.

In 1856, he was married to Kathrine Ann Reed. To this union were born two children Jennie, who survives her father and resides in Thornwood Park, Ohio, and John, who preceeded his father to the better land, March 20, 1886. He was converted when 15 years old and united with the M.E. church of which he has always been a very acceptable member, all those who knew him can hear testimony of his sincerity and devotion. During his last sickness he has had the very brightest evidence of a glowing prospect of heaven.

He leaves to mourn his loss, two sons, one daughter, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of friends. The funeral services were held in the M.E. church at Truro, Dec. 1st, and conducted by the pastor, C. K. Corkill, assisted by S. C. Howe, after which he was laid to rest in the Young cemetery.
