William Storck Dies Suddenly

The tolling of the bell of the German Lutheran church in Jefferson township Tuesday forenoon was a part of the funeral services of William Storck, age thirty seven years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhardt Storck, living three miles south of Van Meter.

He died at a farmer’s house near Audubon Saturday morning while sitting on a chair where he called for a drink of water, after having walked from another farmer’s house where he ate breakfast. The coroner was notified at once who summoned a jury that decided that the death was caused by heart failure.

Fortunately a circular advertising letter addressed to Gerhardt Storck was found in his pocket, which served to identify him without doubt, and prevent any delay in notifying his relatives at Van Meter.

Mr. Gerhardt Storck arrived at Audubon the same day, where the undertaker fittingly prepared the corpse for the consignment to Van Meter. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jobst. Short services were held at the house and the large procession moved to the church where the funeral oration was delivered.

Note: Burial was made in the Trinity German Lutheran cemetery.
