OBITUARY

John Prohaska, the son of Paul and Antonie Prohaska was born on a farm a few miles east of Earlham, September 16, 1875, and departed this life in a home for the aged in West Des Moines, December 25, 1951 at the age of 76 years, three months and 10 days.

His early youth was spent on the farm with his parents, and known as the Prohaska farm a few miles east of Earlham. When a young man he came to Earlham and took up the work of carpentry, which he followed as long as his health permitted.

John came from a family of seven boys and three girls. Those of the family remaining to mourn his passing are Frank of Winterset and Charles of Earlham and Mrs. Mary Mleynek, also of Earlham; a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

When a young man he united with the Church of Christ in Earlham. He belonged to the Masonic order of Earlham, and the Consistory of Des Moines, Iowa.

John was a familiar character upon our streets, before sickness overcame him. He was of a jovial disposition, and had a good word and a friendly smile for all. John will be missed from our town life and activities. No more will we hear the clang of his hammer, or the swirl of his saw, for he has finished his life’s work. He has answered the summons of the Master Architect. He has gone to that land from which no traveler ever returns. He has made the world a little bit better by having lived in it.

Funeral services were conducted in the Church of Christ by the Rev. S. R. Overholser Friday afternoon. The burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
