LORRIE SAVERAID, Winterset

Dolores “Lorrie” Clara Saveraid, 79, died Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset of complications of a stroke.

Funeral services were held today at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset with Pastor Joel Nau officiating. Burial was at Palestine Lutheran Church Cemetery in Huxley, Iowa.

Lorrie was born July 26, 1930, to Grant and Clara Rullestad on the family farm near Huxley, Iowa. She graduated from Huxley High School and married her high school sweetheart, Herbert Saveraid. They enjoyed 52 wonderful years together. Lorrie spent many years managing her husband’s veterinary practices in Adel and Norwalk. They retired to Winterset. Lorrie took a position as a tour guide at the John Wayne Birthplace in Winterset where she enjoyed visiting with people from all around the world. For many years, she organized the entertainment on the northwest corner of the square for the Covered Bridge Festival and was nominated by the Winterset City Council for 1999 Volunteer of the Year.

Lorrie loved visiting with her children, grandchildren, friends and relatives. She enjoyed singing, watching Cyclone sports and all the activities and people at Madison Square Assisted Living.

Lorrie is survived by her children, Lee Saveraid of rural Lorimor, Craig (Marta) Saveraid of rural Winterset, and Susan (Bob) Gill of Clive; brother, Frank (Eleanor) Rullestad of West Des Moines; sister, Lois Wilkowski of Gainesville, Fla.; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; her parents; infant twin brother, Donald; brother, Gene; and a granddaughter, Kami Lynn Gill.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset, Palestine Lutheran Cemetery in Huxley, or Middle River Hospice in Winterset. McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset was in charge of arrangements.
