Elizabeth Ann Farris, oldest daughter of Charles and Mary Jane Farris, was born Feb. 11, 1850 and departed this life on Feb. 13, 1923, having passed her 73rd year by two days. She was born and grew to womanhood in Union township. She united with the Church of Christ while yet in her girlhood days, and continued in the fellowship of the church to the time of her death.

On Marcy 20, 1873 she was united in marriage to Alfred Higgs. The companion passed away in July 1921, leaving her alone on the farm where they had lived for more than 40 years. There being no children in the home, she often felt lonely, and kept with her as much as possible the nieces and nephews, upon whom she showered the love of a mother heart.

She leaves to hold her in fond memory three brothers: C. I. Farris of Carson, Wash.; A. M. Farris of Des Moines; F. D. Farris of Hardington, Nebr., and two sisters Mrs. Alfred Cox and Mrs. Lucy Brittain of Winterset who following the death of Mr. Higgs gave her sister all the care one could give. A large circle of old friends will also cherish her memory.

Funeral services were held at the North River United Brethren church on Thursday at 1 o’clock, conducted by Rev. E. B. Chancellor of the Winterset Church of Christ. Burial was made in the North River cemetery.

Transcriber note: Burial in North McDonald Cemetery.
