MARY LUCILE BUCHANAN
A funeral service for Mary Lucile Buchanan of Carroll will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan 27, 1996 at First United Methodist Church in Carroll. Miss Buchanan, 86, died Monday Jan 22, 1996 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. The Rev. Ron Blix will officiate the service.

Miss Buchanan donated her body to science. Burial will be in St. Charles (Iowa) Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church of Carroll. Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home of Carroll handled the arrangements.

She was born Feb. 9, 1909 at St. Charles, Iowa, a daughter of John L. and Kate (Houston) Buchanan. She graduated from St. Charles High School and Iowa State University, where she earned a degree in home economics.

Miss Buchanan taught in the economics department of Mason City schools until April 1942 when she entered the Iowa State Extension Service at Mason City. She worked at the Carroll County Extension office from Nov. 15, 1951 until 1969.

During Miss Buchanan's years in Carroll County she attended special three-week Extension sessions at the University of California at Los Angeles and the University of Texas. She also received the National Award for Extension Education in 1957.

Miss Buchanan was a member of First United Methodist Church of Carroll.

Survivors include several cousins.

St Charles News

Word has been received this past week of the death of Lucile Buchanan of Carroll. Lucile was born and raised in the St Charles community. She was a graduate of St. Charles High School and Iowa State University where she received a degree in home economics. She was an extension home economist until her retirement.
