Death Of MARY HOUK

In the death of this amiable young lady the people of Winterset feel that they have been bereft of a friend. The feeling of sadness is not confined to her relatives and intimate friends, but is shared by all who knew her, both young and old, for Mary was a peculiarly loving and gentle girl. Her delicate health has been a matter of concern for many years and her devoted parents have made it their chief care all this time.

She passed away last Tuesday at San Antonio, Texas, where the family have been making their home for several winters. Relapse from her usual state of health came but a few days before death. She was twenty-four years old last October. Information received from the grief stricken parents is that they would be at Peru with the remains this evening and will thence be brought to the home of T. R. Hunter of this city.

Announcements for the funeral have not yet been made.

MARY HOUK DEAD

Dies in San Antonio, Texas, Tuesday. Funeral in Winterset.

Mary Houk, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Houk, died Tuesday morning at their home in San Antonio, Texas, of consumption. Beyond two brief letters from Mr. Houk received by friends Saturday, stating that his daughter suffered from a severe hemorrhage, and the telegram saying she was dead, Winterset friends have no particulars.

Mary Houk was a brilliant young woman, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Houk. Frail from childhood, every care was lavished upon her. After frequent trips to Minnesota lakes after she had grown to womanhood the family finally removed to San Antonio in the vain effort to save her life. The telegram announcing her death caused universal sorrow in Winterset.

The funeral will probably be held from the United Presbyterian church Friday or Saturday.
