CALVIN SHADE

Calvin Augustus Shade was born near Laporte Indiana September 28, 1859 and died on September 13, 1919 at Waterloo, Iowa, age 59 years and 10 days. His father, James Calvin Shade was a native of Kentucky and his mother, Caroline Lebo Shade was a native of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Shade moved with his parents to Dubuque county, Iowa, when a small boy. Moved to Boone county, Iowa in 1870, where he continued to reside until 1903 when he moved to Wright county, Iowa, and in 1911 came to Madison county, Iowa, where he has since resided.

He was united in marriage to Angeline M. Abraham on October 26, 1887. To this union were born six children: Isabella M., Estella C., Mildred E., George W., Leland M., and Calvin I., all of whom reside with their mother. Mr. Shade was a quiet unassuming man, honest and generous to a fault. As I once heard a neighbor say, “He never allowed anyone to out clever him.” He loved his country, home and family.

Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his loss, his aged mother, one brother, William Shade of Hubbard, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Alta Alsin of Boone, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at Maple Grove church, September 16, 1919, conducted by Rev. Giddens of Winterset.
