Prominent Restaurant Man Dies of Heart Disease Tuesday
John Keefe, one of Winterset’s oldest business men, died at his home on West Court Avenue Tuesday evening. One of his old friends, Deputy Sheriff Lee Tidrick, had stopped to see him. Mr. Tidrick heard him gasp and running into the bedroom found him on the floor. Life was extinct in a moment or two. Death came from heart trouble.
John Keefe came to Winterset in 1883. He was married to Lulu Young, youngest daughter of John Young, one of the earliest residents of this city in 1886. Mr. Keefe was always engaged in the restaurant business and at various times owned restaurants here. When his death occurred Mrs. Keefe was in the restaurant which they now own on the north side.
The funeral occurred Thursday afternoon and was under the auspices of the Knights of Pythias lodge of which Keefe was a member for many years. Rev. Atwood preached the funeral sermon.
