Another old pioneer has gone. James Small departed this life on April 18, 1907 and was laid to rest in the St. Charles cemetery last Saturday afternoon.
Mr. Small was born in Lawrence county, Penn., Oct. 29, 1828, being over seventy-eight years old at his death. He was married to Martha Painter in 1854 and with his wife came to Iowa in 1855 and has lived in Warren and Madison counties ever since. He was well respected in the community and reared seven children to manhood and womanhood, two sons and five daughters.
He leaves to mourn his loss, a widow, six children, his son William dying in the Philippines last year. Thus one by one the sturdy pioneer of fifty years ago are silently passing away. May their memory ever be kept green.
