REV. ABRAHAM C. TRIS

Rev. Abraham C. Tris quietly passed away sometime Tuesday night, April 9th. He was ill a few days and passed from life to death while asleep. Short services were held at the home of his son, W. A. Tris Thursday forenoon, after which the remains were taken to Keokuk, Iowa for interment by the side of his wife. His two sons accompanied the body to his last resting place.

Rev.Tris was born in Holland, July 13, 1817, and after receiving a thorough education in the colleges and seminaries, was ordained a minister in the Dutch Reformed church in 1845, and held a pastorate until 1851 when he came to America. He was at Lacona, Iowa as pastor of the United Presbyterian church from 1855 to 1864. Then from 1864 to 1896 he worked as a missionary among the Jews of New York City, for which work he was well prepared as he was a good linguist in Hebrew. He wrote several books and pamphlets on religious subjects, and his mind was active up to his death. For the last years he has been making his home with his son at St. Charles.
