M. N. Mitchell was born in Dauphin county, Pa., near Harrisburg, Nov. 10, 1818. Was married to Mary Ann Zearing (who died in 1890) in 1843. To this union nine children were born, all of which were born in Dauphin county, Pa. He removed with his wife and eight children, one having died, to Madison county, Ia., in the spring of 1868, where he resided until a little more than three years before his death, when he made his home with his youngest daughter, Mrs. Scofield, in Indianola, Ia. Five children still survive him, J. W. Mitchell, Mrs. Mirva Hardenbrook who lives in Cal., Mrs. Mary Pryor in Colorado, W. G. Mitchell and Mrs. Matilda Scofield in Iowa.
Mr. Mitchell joined the M.E. church when but a young man and remained a consistent member until his death August 31, 1908, at the advanced age of 89 years, 10 months and 20 days.

Page 1M. N. Mitchell, an old resident of Webster township, passed away at Clarinda, Iowa, on Sunday, August 30th, after a gradual decline due to extreme old age. The deceased was born in Pennsylvania, November 10, 1818.
He came to this county and settled on a farm near Maple Grove, Webster township, in 1868. Last spring his mind became enfeebled from the ravages of old age and he was taken to the state hospital at Clarinda. The remains were brought here for burial and interment made in the Roberts cemetery near Webster on Wednesday.
