Betty Jean DeLong, daughter of Grover Cleveland Osborn and Edna Ann (Low) Osborn was born November 5, 1930 in Murray, Iowa, and passed from this life Saturday, February 20, 2010 at her home in Truro, Iowa, at 79 years of age.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola; interment will follow in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 Monday evening at the funeral home.

Betty grew up in the Murray area. She was united in marriage to Darrell Albert DeLong on May 1, 1948 at Peru, IA, and six children blessed this union.

Betty was a mother and a homemaker. She worked as a waitress for several years. Her greatest love was her family. She enjoyed playing the piano, dancing, cooking, baking cakes and bread, and making Christmas candy. She loved going to the Iowa State Fair especially to watch her grandchildren show horses, cattle, sheep and swine and she enjoyed hosting the yearly traditional beef & noodle night in memory of Mark Eggman.

Betty was preceded in death by the love of her life of 61 years, her husband, Darrell, April 27, 2009. Also proceeding her in death were her parents, Grover and Edna; in-laws, Leonard and Gladys DeLong; great-grandson, Tanner Roe Matlage; brothers, Ephraim, Sol and Alvador Osborn; sisters, Clara Carter, Evelyn McCarl, Vina Mitchell, Frances Woods, Mildred Shick and Jessie Coats.

She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Janet (Larry) Miller of Murray; daughter, Pennie (Bob) Jubell of Osceola; daughter, Sharon (Bernie) Miller of Murray; son, Lenard (Minda Barr) DeLong of Pleasant Hill; daughter, Deborah (Brian) Brown of New Virginia; daughter, Dara (Steve) Queck of Peru; sister, Fonda Fountain of Seymour; sister-in-law, Dixie Binns of Osceola; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

Memorial contributions may be directed to her family for a memorial to the Clarke County Fair Association to be determined at a later date.
