Death of John G. Steele

John G. Steele, of this place died at Spokane, Wash., last Thursday after but a few days illness. Mr. Steele was interested in mines in British Columbia, which he has been working for the past number of years, making his headquarters at Spokane. Mrs. Steele received a telegram on Tuesday announcing his illness and on Thursday one announcing his death. On account of her own illness she was not able to go to him, and in accordance with his own wishes, his remains were interred at Spokane. The funeral occurred Sunday.

Mr. Steele was a veteran of the civil war. He enlisted during the early part of it and served throughout in the 27th Ohio infantry with honor and credit to both himself and his country.

He was sixty-eight years of age and leaves a wife and daughter besides a couple of brothers and a sister in the west to mourn his loss. Mr. Steele was a man of fine address and pleasing personality; of a genial and social nature that won him friends wherever he went. The friends of the family deeply sympathize with them in their sorrow.
