Last Thursday evening during the storm, John Leggett, the station agent at Lothrop was killed by lightning. He was in a corn crib, sorting out some seed corn when killed. Huff Perkins and his daughter twelve years old were also in the crib. They were knocked insensible but have recovered.
John Leggitt was 66 years old, was an old soldier of 61-65, a Mason and one of our old settlers, and had been station agent at Lothrop for thirty years. The funeral was held at the Glenn Grove M. E. church, Sunday, June 4th, conducted by Rev. Farley, of Indianola. Mr. Leggett leaves a wife, two sons and two daughters, all grown, to mourn his loss. The family and friends have lost a good man and a true citizen.

St. CharlesA sad affair occurred near Lothrop last Thursday afternoon. Mr. John Leggett had gone to his neighbor, Mr. Perkins, to select some seed corn. He had finished picking his corn and left the crib but found that he had left his spectacles. He returned to the crib to get them, a twelve-year-old daughter of Mr. Perkins accompanying him, when upon entering the crib, a bolt of lightning struck the building, killing Mr. Leggett and stunning the girl.
Mr. Leggett was buried at the Linn Grove cemetery last Sunday, the Masonic lodge, of Spring Hill, having charge of the ceremony. Several members of the St. Charles lodge attended.
