Mary E. Jones of St. Charles Dies -

Mary E. Jones, of St. Charles, a resident of Madison County since 1935, died Saturday, April 12, 1969 at Memorial Hospital in Winterset. She was 73 years of age and had been a patient at the hospital since Feb. 10.

Mrs. Jones was a native of Warren County where she was born May 18, 1895. She was the former Mary Elizabeth Stewart, daughter of H. C. and Myra Stewart. A part of her early childhood was spent in the home of an aunt and uncle in Battle Creek, Mich.

As a young woman she returned to Iowa and was married to John M. Hight. They were parents of three daughters and a son. The husband and father died in 1928.

In 1934, Mrs. Hight and two daughters removed to Iowa and here on June 22, 1935 she was married to Benjamin T. Jones. In 1936 they moved to a farm south of St. Charles which was her home the remainder of her life.

Mr. Jones died in 19(unreadable). Her son preceded her in death also.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Mamie Haynes, Mrs. June Mathews, of St. Charles and Mrs. Ella Burg of Hot Springs, S.D.; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a sister, Minnie.

Funeral services were held April 15 from the St. Charles Methodist Church of which she was a member. The Rev. James Louk, pastor of the church conducted the services. Burial was made in the St. Charles Cemetery.
