LOIS JEAN TIGGES, Lidderdale

Lois Jean Tigges, age 78, of Lidderdale, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Born on June 30, 1931 at home in Lidderdale, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Mary (Heuton) Onken, she grew up in Lidderdale and graduated from Carroll High School in 1947. She married Hilarion Wilbur Tigges on January 10, 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa. They moved to rural St. Charles, Iowa and raised eleven children. In 1973, Lois went back to school and became a registered nurse. She worked for Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines for 19 years.

She moved back to Lidderdale in 1989 after she retired. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale. Lois loved visits with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing card games, reading, doing puzzles, and watching television. Lois was known for her smiles and laughter.

She is survived by eleven children: Maryann (Steve) Cooney of Rockford, Illinois; Vance (Melissa) Tigges of Kansas City, Missouri; Bridget (George) Hutton of St. Charles, Iowa; Felicia (Jim) Price of Earlam, Iowa; Ardalia Williams of Oxford, Iowa, Hilarion (Trish) Tigges of Ipswich, England; Eli (Kris) Tigges of Ames, Iowa; Angela (Joe) Baldwin of Columbia, Missouri; Damian Tigges of Ankeny, Iowa; Andrea (Joe) Edwards of Garrison, Texas, and Regina Tigges of Altoona, Iowa; two brothers: Doyle Onken and his wife Karen of Jamaica, Iowa and Wally Onken and his wife Madge of Lidderdale; twenty nine grandchildren; and twenty three great grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Paul, and a brother Lyle.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale with Fr. Timothy Schott as Celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday where there will be Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. by Holy Family Parish.
