JODY STOUT, WINTERSET

Jody DeVerne Stout, 81, of Winterset died Jan. 3, 2010, at the Country Haven Guest Home near Winterset.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Visitation will be from 1–8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Ochiltree’s, where the family will be present to receive friends from 6–8 p.m. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Country Haven Guest Home, 2490 Prairieview Ave., Winterset. Online condolences may be made at ochiltree.com.

Jody Stout was born April 13, 1928, on a farm north of Murray to Otho Doan and Veronica (Letz) Stout. When he was age 10, the family moved to a farm near Peru. He was educated in the rural schools and attended Peru High School until the eleventh grade, when the school closed in 1946. Subsequently, he attended his senior year in Winterset, graduating in 1947. Jody worked in the book bindery for the Meredith Burda Corporation. He began his work with Meredith in 1950 and worked for 36 and one-half years, retiring in 1987.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen C. Stout of Winterset; his children — Carol Petersen of Earlham, David Stout of Harlan, and Larry Stout and Betty Hope, both of Winterset; a brother, Otho Loren Stout of Waukee; and 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
