J. F. Buchanan died at his home in the south part of the city Wednesday afternoon. The funeral will take place from the residence at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Friday). Mr. Buchanan is an old resident of Madison county and was one of our best citizens. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.

J. F. Buchanan was born in or near Wheeling, Va., in 1825. His early life was spent there and in eastern Ohio. He was educated at Muskingum college and at the Ohio University at Athens. He was married in 1850. Three years later he emigrated to Marshall county, Ill., where he resided till 1877, when he emigrated to Madison county, Iowa, and settled on a farm just north west of Winterset. He lived there until two years ago when he removed to Winterset-----

Among the local items crowded out of last week’s paper was the notice of the death of J. F. Buchanan, the well known farmer of Douglas township. He was one of the best and most favorably known citizens and had many friends in the city and county. The funeral occurred last Friday. He had been in feeble health for several years.
