Polly Crawford, who died near Buffalo, was one of the pioneer settlers of Madison county. She came here with her husband in the early fifties and settled, as did all the early settlers, on a bottom farm. She died on the farm which her husband, John Crawford, purchased from the government. Excepting the Guyes of Union township, she was we believe the only person living on the land they originally purchased from the government.
