Edith Aichele, 90, died Nov. 7, 2009, at Winterset Care Center South.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at the First Presbyterian Church in Winterset with a private burial at the Worthington Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Middle River Hospice.
Edith Aichele was born April 18, 1919, in the Worthington neighborhood to Oliver Frank and Anice (Knox) Brown. She attended rural schools and was a member of the Worthington Methodist Church. In 1936, she graduated from Winterset High School. Edith married Bill Aichele in 1946 and resided in Cincinnati. She later moved to New York City and was employed in the fashion world in the shops at the Plaza Hotel. In 1972, she returned to Adel due to her parents’ declining health. Following her father’s death, she and her mother purchased a home in Winterset in 1976. Edith was employed at Wolf’s Department Store in Des Moines in the 1970s. For several years, she operated a shop, Edith’s Butterfly Bazaar, in Winterset and was later employed at Montross Pharmacy until her retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, China Painting Club, Tri L Club and Winterset Art Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by many cousins and Laura Vasilion, Paul Melull and Carla Marsh, all of the Chicago suburbs and children of Ruby Melull, formerly of Madison County.
