Esther J. Frank, 83, of Winterset, Iowa, died Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery.

Esther was born at Winterset to John and Inez (Gardner) Townsend. She had been a lifetime resident of Winterset and was a 1943 graduate of Winterset High School. Esther had worked for the ASCS Office and later served two terms as the Madison County Treasurer. She belonged to the PEO, Madison County Historical Society, and the First Christian Church.

Esther is survived by her husband, Dale Frank of Winterset; son, Thomas Dale (Cindy) Frank of Winterset; daughter, Nancy Jane (Shawn) Hanson of Winterset; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Marjorie Estell; and grandson, Sammy Frank.

Visitation will be Wednesday from noon to 8 p.m. at the First Christian Church with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Madison County Historical Society or the First Christian Church.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.

ESTHER JANE FRANK, WINTERSET

Esther Jane Frank, 83, of Winterset, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at the First Christian Church in Winterset with Rev. Kevin and Rev. Sue Blader officiating. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery.

Esther was born on March 6, 1926, in Winterset to John and Inez (Gardner) Townsend. She had been a lifetime resident of Winterset and was a 1943 graduate of Winterset High School. On Sept. 15, 1946, Esther married Dale LaVerne Frank at the First Christian Church in Winterset.

During her life, Esther had worked for the ASCS office and then ran for Madison County Treasurer and served two terms.

Esther belonged to PEO, Harmony Guild, Antique Club, Tri-L Club, Madison County Historical Society, Republican Women, served on the Election Board and was treasurer for NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees). Esther was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and served as treasurer for several years.

Esther was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother — a person who never knew a stranger. She always saw the good and the beauty in everyone and everything. One of the highlights of her years was the annual vacation to Woman Lake in Minnesota with all of her family. She especially enjoyed doing things for and spending time with family and friends.

Esther is survived by her husband, Dale Frank of Winterset; son, Thomas Dale (Cindy) Frank of Winterset; daughter, Nancy Jane (Shawn) Hanson of Winterset; grandchildren, Adam Dale (Abby) Hanson, Betsy Kae (Bryan) Snyder, Natalie Jane (fiancé, Kevin Kauffman) Hanson, Katie Jane Frank, Scott Thomas (fiancée, Valery Rahe) Hanson and Christopher Thomas Frank; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Inez (Gardner) Townsend; sister, Marjorie Estell; and grandson, Sammy Frank.
