Margaret Ross was born in Alleghany county, Pa., in 1832 and came to Iowa with her mother and family in 1850, settling in Mahaska county. There she was married to Micajah Stout Aug. 26th, 1852 and in 1866 they came to Winterset where the family has since resided. There were four sons in this family, only one of whom, A. L. Stout, of this city survives the mother. The father, after serving faithfully in the civil war became later a helpless invalid and died in 1883. Mrs. Stout was a patient long-suffering woman who had much sickness and affliction to bear in her family, and her real worth was recognized best by a few friends who knew her well.
