I. W. Brownell, of Grand River township, died at his home Monday the 24th. The funeral services occurred yesterday, interment at the cemetery near his home. We have not the date for an obituary account, but probably shall have soon.

Ira W. Brownell one of the oldest residents of Madison county, Iowa, passed to his reward November 24, 1902. Mr. Brownell was born in Colchester, Vermont June 22, 1831. He came to Madison county, Iowa in the fall of 1867 and lived in and near Winterset for a few years then moved on his farm near Macksburg, where he lived until his death. He was buried from the Madison county First Congregational church of which he was a member and the senior deacon, Rev. R. E. Roberts officiating. His remains were laid to rest in the Kivett cemetery.
He leaves a wife, who had walked by his side as his helpmate through the clouds and sunshine of over forty-two years to mourn his loss, also four children, Mrs. Flora A. Greer of Lewiston, Idaho, Bertha M. Osborn of Earlham, Iowa, Almon F. and Wilford E. Brownell of Madison, Iowa.
Mr. Brownell was a good neighbor, a faithful citizen and an untiring worker in the church, and will be greatly missed not only in his home but in the church and community. The friends have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.
