Uncle John Morgan, who has been in failing health for some time passed away last Sunday evening between 9 and 12 o’clock. He had been up and around as usual on Sunday and retired about 9 o’clock. At about midnight it was found that he was sleeping the sleep that knows no awakening this side of eternity.

He had been a resident of Madison county for nearly forty years and during all that time had been an exemplary citizen. He will be greatly missed by his large circle of friends.

John Morgan, son of Thomas and Ann Morgan, was born in Indiana on January 1, 1821, where he grew to manhood. In 1843 he moved to Greene county, Ohio, where he was married December 7 of that year to Rebecca Wroe. He moved to Grant county, Indiana in 1845, remaining there until 1864 when he came to Madison county, Iowa. At the time of his death he was aged 81 years and 3 months. He leaves an aged wife and four children to mourn his taking away.

The services were held on Tuesday afternoon in the Friends church, conducted by Rev. J. E. Williams, and attended by many friends. His remains were laid at rest in the Earlham cemetery.
