Funeral mass for Irvin Bentler was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, at St. John’s Catholic Church of Adel. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery at Dallas Center.

Mr. Bentler died of a heart ailment Saturday, July 14, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 70.

The service was led by Father Anthony Aiello. Gladys Shultz was the organist, and Mary Sue Hibbs was the vocalist.

Pallbearers were Mr. Bentler’s grandsons, Aaron Bentler, Brian Bentler, Mark Bentler, Kevin Corkrean, Ryan Corkrean, Daniel Dhabalt, Adam Pickering and Andrew Pickering.

A Vigil Service was held at 7 p.m. Monday at St. John’s Catholic Church, followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary Service at 8 p.m. at the church.

Born May 5, 1920 at Houghton, Iowa, he was the son of William and Elizabeth Bentler. He married Erminilda Breitbarth on Dec. 28, 1942 at Ft. Sill, Okla.

An army veteran of World War II, Mr. Bentler lived at Earlham 33 years and was retired as an oil jobber. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, the Adel Knights of Columbus, Dowling Assembly Knights of Columbus and the Adel Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leonard. Surviving are his wife Erminilda, two sons David of Dexter and Edward of Phoenix, Ariz., three daughters, Deborah Corkrean of Winterset, Linda Pickering of Carlisle and Brenda Dhabalt of Earlham, two brothers Leroy of Houghton, and Kevin of Phoenix, Ariz., four sisters, Bernice Becker of Mount Pleasant, Evelyn Sanders of Fort Madison, Valeria Thrasher of Earling, and Irene Bixenman of Fort Madison, and 16 grandchildren.
