Page 4Mrs. Elizabeth McLarnand Gordon of Winterset died at her home on Feb. 10th, after an illness that dated from September, 1923. Two weeks ago, her health became grave and her decline was rapid.
Mrs. Gordon came to Madison county in 1877 and has been a resident of this vicinity during the major part of her life. She taught school for years. Four years ago her husband, W. L. Rhoads died and in 1922 she was married to Milton C. Gordon, who survives her. Her only son, Ethol also survives, also two stepchildren, two sisters and three brothers. Rev. E. B. Chancellor conducted funeral services at the Church of Christ on Tuesday.

Elizabeth Jane Gordon
Elizabeth Jane McLarnand, daughter of Hugh and Mary Jane McLarnand was born at Kilburn, Adams county, Wis., Jan. 13, 1864 and was called to her eternal reward Feb. 10, 1924 at the age of 60 years and 27 days. When four years of age, she with her parents, moved to Vernon, Blue Earth county, Minn., where she resided until 13 years of age at which time she came to Madison county. She taught school for a number of years in Madison and Union counties.
On Dec. 3, 1891 she was united in marriage with W. L. Rhodes, and to this union was born one son, Ethol Hugh. Mr. Rhodes died March 21, 1920. On Jan 3, 1922 she was united in marriage to Milton C. Gordon of Winterset.
At an early age she united with the Church of Christ and was faithful until death.
There remain to hold her in fond and loving memory the husband and the son. Ethol Rhodes of Fonda, Iowa who with his wife, was at his mother’s bedside at the time of her death; three brothers; Joseph E. McLarnand of Winterset, Albert W. of Clearwater, Fla., J. Frank of Macksburg; two sisters; Charlotte J. Griffin of Hydro, Okla., and Ida L. Jenkins of Detroit, Mich., and two step-children, Clarence Gordon and Mrs. Marie McClintic, both of Winterset. Other relatives and a large circle of friends unite with these more immediate relatives in the spirit of tender sympathy.
Funeral services were conducted by E. B. Chancellor from the Church of Christ on Tuesday morning. Burial was in the Hamblin cemetery.
