Death has again visited us and claimed for its own our noble and esteemed friend and neighbor, Mrs. J. A. Sandy, daughter of M. L. Thompson, of Earlham. Mrs. Sandy died April 21, 1900, of consumption, and was laid to rest beside her mother in Worthington cemetery. Rev. Mott Mitchell, her pastor, conducting the obsequies.

She was a genuine consistant Christian and wife, and the beneficiary of all that love and skill could accomplish and her death is mourned by a host of relatives and warm friends. On behalf of this community, where she was so well and favorably known, we extend a tender sympathy to the lonely and bereaved husband and family. Grandma Thompson, of Davenport, who is 86 years old, was in attendance at the death-bed and funeral.

The pall bearers were Mesdames, Mary Crawford, Laura Bast, Mary Trindle, Josie Haxton, Lea LaPella, Mattie Hays. A quartette, consisting of Mr. and Mrs. George Mitchell, of Earlham, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nichols with Mrs. Mott Mitchell for organist, furnished the music.

On last Saturday evening at nine o’clock Mrs. J. A. Sandy passed from this life. She had never been very strong but since last summer had seemed to improve. A week ago last Friday she had a stroke of apoplexy and gradually sank to rest.

Jane Alice Thomson, daughter of M. L. and Demma Thomson, was born November 14, 1868, in Madison township, Madison county, Iowa, and spent her whole life here. At an early age she united with the M.E. church and remained a faithful Christian to the end.

December 7, 1880 she was married to J. A. Sandy. No children were born to them and the faithful husband is left alone to bear his sorrow. Besides her husband, she leaves a father, brothers and sisters to mourn her loss, the mother having gone to her reward many years ago. Mrs. Sandy was a good woman and bore her suffering with a patient spirit.

The funeral was held in the Worthington church at eleven o’clock on Monday, conducted by Rev. Mott Mitchell, and was largely attended. The remains were laid to rest in the Worthington cemetery, beside those of her mother, to await the coming of Him whom she delighted to serve while here upon earth.

To the sorrowing husband, father and family the sympathy of the entire community goes out.
