WILLIAM E. POOLER

Wm. E. Pooler, son of Justus and Margaret Pooler, was born in Savannah, Missouri, December 15, 1851. His mother died when he was only a few months old and he was taken into the home of his uncle and aunt, Wm. And Cynthia Miller. They brought him to Winterset, Iowa, and he continued to make his home with them except for a year or two during the Civil war. When eleven or twelve years of age he made his home with a cousin, Joseph Rippey.

He was married to Rosa Prater in May of 1877, and to this union were born three children, Alice, who died in infancy, and Mrs. May McAdow and Mrs. Fay Brown, of Adair county, Iowa. Mr. Pooler lived in Madison county for about six years and then moved to Adair county, and five or six years later moved to Oklahoma. After several years there Mrs. Pooler died, and Mr. Pooler brought the children back to Winterset. He was married to Mrs. Anna Burns, of Cambridge, Iowa, in 1916, and they made their home in Winterset for a time and then moved to their farm near Macksburg. They again moved to Winterset and were here for two years, but last spring they returned to the farm where they were living at the time of his death.

He was not in good health but was active and able to do his work until death overtook him very suddenly. His death occurred on last Saturday night, February 5. Mr. Pooler united with the Church of Christ when a young man and was a faithful member. He leaves to hold him in sacred memory the companion, two daughters and other relatives and a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were conducted by E. B. Chancellor from the Winterset Church of Christ on Thursday afternoon at 1:30. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

The Madisonian obituary was virtually identical with the one above with the following exception: "His death occurred last Sunday morning, Feb. 3".

Feb 3 was a Sunday so there is as least one error in the Winterset News version. Whether he died on Saturday night or Sunday morning is unknown.
