MARILYN JO BUSH, WINTERSET

Marilyn Jo Bush, 66, of Winterset passed away Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at her home after a three-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at the First Baptist Church in Winterset. Visitation will be held from 4–8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, with family present to receive friends from 6–8 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice of Winterset.

Marilyn was born Jan. 13, 1943, in Winterset, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Ruth (Curtis) Boyd. She married her high school sweetheart, Duane Bush, on Aug. 26, 1960, at her parents’ home. They had four children — a daughter and three sons.

Marilyn was very busy as a homemaker and for a few years as a childcare provider before leaving the house to work for the Winterset School District for 32+ years. She started as a school cook and then progressed to an assistant food manager. She was always known as the “ticket lady” and “ice cream lady.” The last three years, she fought hard due to battling cancer and retired in 2008.

Marilyn was a member of the First Baptist Church where she enjoyed time as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She was in Card Club for 38 years. She and Duane were recognized as Fans of the Year in 2008 by the Winterset Booster Club.

She loved the holidays; Christmas was her favorite. Marilyn enjoyed the county fair, loved planting flowers every spring, and loved to shop. She was always thinking of others first; never missing a birthday or anniversary. She enjoyed life and loved her family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, sister, mother, mother-in-law, and grandma!

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Duane, of Winterset; her children, Vickie Bass (Greg), Tom Bush (Cindy), Dan Bush (Shari), and David Bush (Vicki), all of Winterset; two sisters, Dorothy Holtmyer (Charles) and Velma Secrest, both of Winterset; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.
