Funeral services for A. Frank Reed were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 16, in the Buffalo Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Mildren officiating. Mrs. Celia Holt sang “How Great Thou Art" and a quartet sang, accompanied by Mrs. Fredda Heady, organist. Escorts were Derald Henderson, John Kuhn, Marvin Kjar, Jack Freeman, Bryon Hatfield and Harold Allen. Interment was in the Oak Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Cantlon Funeral Home.

Almond Frank Reed, son of the late Austin and Altha (Beardsley) Reed was born Oct. 14, 1894 near Peru in Madison County, Iowa and died May 13, after a lengthy illness, at Cox Medical Center in Springfield. He was at the time of his death 87 years, six months and 29 days of age.

He received his education in Peru, Iowa. On Feb. 21, 1925, he was united in marriage to Mary Vesta Leinard at St. Charles, Iowa. Their early married life was spent on a farm in Madison County, Iowa. To this union seven children were born.

In February, 1942, they moved to the Buffalo area where he farmed until December 1964 when he retired and moved to his present home. He worked part time as a carpenter and meat cutter in the Buffalo area. At an early age he joined the Methodist Church in Peru, Iowa and later transferred his membership to Buffalo United Methodist Church where he remained a faithful member the rest of his life.

He served his country in World War I as a soldier and was honorable discharged in June 1919 and returned to Peru, where he began farming.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Vesta, of the home; his loving children Doris Louise Stanton, Lee’s Summit; Phillip Frank Reed, Buffalo; Dale Wayne Reed, El Dorado Springs; Alive Lorraine Ovitt, Plano, Ill.; Ernest Austin Reed, Buffalo; Lloyd Richard Reed, Peculiar; Claire Eugene Reed, Richmond; one brother, Robert L. Reed, Des Moines, Iowa; also 23 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, one brother, Eddie Reed, one step-sister and one grandson, Jerry Dean Reed.
