DONALD THOMAS, Winterset

Donald Eldon Thomas, 75, of Winterset died May 23, 2009, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Donald Thomas was born April 10, 1934, to Eldon and Buelah (Eyerly) Thomas of rural Pitzer in Madison County and was a 1953 graduate of Winterset High School. His marriage to Margaret Hester took place March 10, 1957, and to this union four children were born. He later married Esther Agee Cox on Sept. 24, 1990. A lifelong Madison County resident, Donald worked with his father for 16 years at the Thomas Feed and Produce in Winterset. He also drove a school bus for the Winterset School District for 12 years and a grain truck for several years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset and in past years, attended the Macksburg Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Dakota Thomas; a sister, Irene Thomas; and a brother, Les Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Esther, of Winterset; his children, Joan Beebe of Winterset, Judy Thomas of Palm Harbor, Fla., Dan Thomas of Indianola, David Thomas of Patterson, and Craig Cox of Macksburg; a sister, Loree Hawkins of Adel; a brother, Gerald Thomas of Winterset; and nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
