Funeral services for J. C. Thompson of Macksburg were held last Saturday afternoon, Dec. 26, from the Methodist church there. Mr. Thompson died Dec. 23, 1970 at Madison County Memorial hospital. He was 82 years of age.
A son of Marshall and Minta Welch Thompson, he was born in Union county, Iowa, on July 10, 1888. He had lived in Madison county the past 70 years.
On May 28, 1913, he was married to Mary Alice Catterlin in Winterset. She died in August of 1958.
Mr. Thompson, a member of the Methodist church, was a long-time carpenter, paper hanger and painter in the Macksburg community.
He is survived by four children: Evelyn (Mrs. Clare Harden) of Macksburg; Phyllis (Mrs. Cleve Kirkland) of Lorimor; John Thompson of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Sam Thompson of Des Moines; also 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother.
Officiating at the service last Saturday was the Rev. Ronald Kinzler of Macksburg. Burial was in Moon cemetery south of Macksburg.
