Winterset Madisonian – November 29, 1900
Pg 8
St. Charles

After Tuesday of last week this city was under a pall of gloom because of the passing away of the exemplary Christian life of Mrs. Sylvia E., wife of Mayor P. S. Wise. While her early death, because of the rapid decline of her health during the few years last past, was not unlooked for, her loss is none the less deeply felt. Her life as a romping, lively and enthusiastic school girl, a much respected young lady and a devoted daughter and wife, has mostly been passed in this vicinity, where by her winning manners, her kind and pleasant ways and her pure and noble conduct, she had endeared herself to a large circle of acquaintances who most earnestly sympathize with her bereaved husband, her excellent mother and other relatives who have so tenderly and faithfully cared for her and administered to her comfort through the many months of patient, but intense suffering.

She was a worthy, earnest and beloved member of the W.R.C. of St. Charles, and the sisters of that order exemplified their love, respect and appreciation of this departed member by their kind attention, their unfeigned grief and the lovely flowers which bedecked her beautiful casket. Funeral on Thursday morning. Burial in the St. Charles cemetery. Rev. Hancox, her former pastor, now stationed at Conway, Iowa, was present by request and ably assisted by Rev. Proudfit and Palmer, of St. Charles, preached an impressive sermon and conducted the services. A number of friends and relatives from a distance, including her maternal grandmother and an aunt of Des Moines, were in attendance, and her brother, Ira Williams, (part of this missing) Monday when receiving notice of the critical condition, but unfortunately, owing to the unsatisfactory train service, was not able to reach this city until Friday morning, one day after the funeral. The relatives of herself and husband who reside here are among the large number who suffer from this loss and are accorded full sympathy.

Note: Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
