Death of Albert S. Gowin

Last Monday morning, May 22, Albert S. Gowin passed away after an illness that began the 7th of last October. His disease was cancer of the liver and pancreas and his suffering was most severe.

Mr. Gowin was born February 26, 1824 in Ripley county, Indiana, being 75 years, 2 months and 26 days old at the time of his death. There he lived until grown and was married to Eliza Jane Logan, January 14, 1847. To them were born seven children, two boys and five girls, all grown to manhood and womanhood and six of whom are living, to mourn the loss of their last best earthly friend, the wife and mother having gone before, January 22, 1889.

Mr. Gowin moved to Madison county in 1872 and lived in that county and community about twenty years. He has made his home most of the time, the past seven years with his eldest daughter, Mrs. L. F. Macy, near and in Dexter.

He was always of a cheerful disposition, a good father, friend and neighbor, and leaves many friends to mourn his departure.

Short services were conducted at the home here, Tuesday, by Rev. C. L. Baxter, and the funeral sermon preached by Rev. Johnson at the Fairview church, south of DeSoto. The interment was made in Fairview cemetery where his remains now rest.
