Fatal Accident

A distressing accident occurred to the family of Wm. Goodson, of Jefferson township, last Sunday. Mr. Goodson, wife and three small children were returning home from near Commerce when the team became frightened at an automobile and started to run away. They ran for the railroad crossing and arrived there just as a train was coming along which struck the wagon, throwing it and its occupants in a frightful manner. The little boy, six years old was instantly killed. Mrs. Goodson was at first reported killed, but later reports state she is still living and hopes of her recovery are entertained. The girl was badly hurt but not seriously, while Mr. Goodson and the baby escaped, marvelous as it may seem, without injury. The wagon was a total wreck but the horses escaped without injury. Mr. Goodson is one of the leading farmers of Jefferson township where he has lived all his life. He is a son of W. N. Goodson, one of the oldest settlers of Madison county, coming to Iowa in 1847 and moving unto his present farm in Jefferson township in 1861.
