Obituary
Mary Josephine Armstrong, third daughter of William and Margaret Jackson Armstrong was born in Adams county, Ohio, October 7, 1849, and departed this life at her home in Earlham, Iowa, October 18, 1941 being 92 years and 11 days old at the time of her death.
She was left motherless, at the age of six, at which time she and an older sister were cared for in the home of an aunt who lived in Brown county, Ohio.
After some time her father was married to Rebecca Sewell, who proved a real mother to these children. To this union were born a daughter, and a son, both deceased so this is the last of a family of seven children.
On December 10, 1867 she was united in marriage to Simeon Wynkoop a young soldier, just returned from the Civil War.
To this union were born 11 children, three sons and eight daughters all of whom survive her with the exception of two—an infant daughter, who passed away in May 1889, and Mrs. H. H. Hamilton who died August 23, 1935.
In the spring of 1877 she with her husband and five children moved from Clinton county, Ohio, to Madison county, where they resided until the death of her husband July 27, 1899.
She continued to live on the old home place, until February 1926, when she moved to her present home in Earlham.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Earlham conducted by the pastor, Rev. Latta assisted by Rev. Youtsler. The body was laid to rest in the family lot in the Fairview cemetery.
