Death of Former Earlham Boy

Clifford McBride, son of Mrs. Minnie Geyer, succumbed to an attack of pneumonia at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. Saturday morning after a short illness. His mother reached his side after a hurried trip from Hagerman, N. M. and was with him for a day before death overtook him. Clifford was a splendid young man in the prime of his life and his untimely death is a grievous shock to relatives as well as the many young people in Earlham who know him as a companion in other years.

He was born in 1895 while his parents Mr. and Mrs. L. W. McBride lived on a farm in Jefferson Township. The family moved to Earlham in 1901 and the boy entered school then Miss Gertrude Hockett was teaching the primary grade. In 1909 the McBrides moved to Hagerman, N. M. which was destined to be their home until the death of Mr. McBride and is still the home of the mother. Clifford did not take kindly to the changed climate of the southland, and after a trip to the north in 1912, in the course of which he paid a visit to local relatives, his residence in New Mexico practically ended.

Early in the war he enlisted in the aviation service, serving in a clerical capacity. Discharged March 21, 1919 he took a Civil Service examination and returned to the same work as a civil employee. This was his employment when the fatal attack of pneumonia summoned him to eternity.

Mrs. Geyer took the body in charge and started with little delay on the sad journey to Hagerman, where funeral services were held one day this week and interment made.
