Obituary

On June 1, 1865, there was born to Jasper and Maria Benson a brown eyed baby daughter Nevada Ann. She grew up the constant companion of a brother two years older than she, and was never happier than when out on the farm enjoying the beauties of a farm home.

Born in a home where Christ was honored, in early life she gave her life to His services and joined the United Brethren Church at Pleasant Hill. March 14, 1886, at the United Brethren pastor’s home she was married to W. S. Pearson and with him made her home in Earlham and vicinity except a few months spent in Des Moines in the summer of 1904.

Three children came to bless this home, Ella Marie, James Lloyd and an infant son who died Jan. 21, 1894. In the stress and toil of her busy life she hadn’t always attended church and its services but at the last her heart turned in a stronger way to the faith of her childhood and she talked often of her going and of Heaven and the blessed release from the suffering which was almost more than she could bear. Just after the noontide Thursday, July 7, her weary spirit took its flight to the Heaven of eternal rest and peace.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband W. S. Pearson, her daughter Mrs. Tide Slavens, her son James Lloyd Pearson, her aged mother Marie Benson, two brothers W. N. Benson of Sawyer, N. D., and Chas. E. Benson of Deer Creek, Minn., two sisters E. Josie Brown, of Earlham, and Mrs. Eva Morgan, of Redlands, Cal., nine grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She was a ember of Eastern Star, also Royal Neighbors, in which she was a presiding officer.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday from the Methodist Church with Rev. A. P. Keast, of Corydon, officiating. Interment was in Earlham cemetery.
